Belfast's brightest businesses scoop top gongs at Awards Ceremony

The best of Belfast's businesses were celebrating on 22nd November following the annual Belfast Business Awards, held at the Waterfront Hall. The ceremony, hosted by the BBC.s Jim Fitzpatrick and Karen Patterson, was presided over by Department for Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie and Belfast's Lord Mayor Jim Rodgers.

Well known names including Titanic Quarter, Northbrook Technologies and The Merchant Hotel, and smaller businesses including East Belfast Chip-shop For Cod and Ulster and Newington Credit Union were among those recognised at the ceremony, which has become firmly established on Belfast's business calendar.

Billy McGivern, Chair, Belfast City Centre Management said: .The awards are testament to the strength of the business sector in Belfast and I offer my sincere congratulations to each of the winners.

A strong business sector is vital for any city; providing employment, and delivering innovation and entrepreneurship. I am especially pleased that DSD Minister Margaret Ritchie and Belfast's Lord Mayor Jim Rodgers joined us to see the truly high standards on offer. The work of the Department for Social Development and Belfast City Council has been instrumental in placing Belfast in the strong position it enjoys today, and I know I speak for all of the winners when I say how much we look forward to working with local government and the Executive for the benefit of our City.

The awards, now in their third year, recognise the great and the good of Belfast's business community and have become one of the City's best known business social and networking events.

The Legacy to Belfast Award, sponsored by the Boyd Partnership, recognises a building, public art project or development which has made a significant contribution to the legacy of the City. Titanic Quarter won this years award, recognising the developments long-term benefits for the Belfast. Northbrook Technologies, which has offices in Belfast, Strabane and the University of Ulster's Magee campus, received the People Development Award, sponsored by task Recruitment.

The Merchant Hotel, now well established as one of the City'.s top hotels, scooped three awards; Best Bar/Restaurant, Best Customer Service and Best Hotel.

Large and small business, across all sectors including retail, IT, property, social economy and tourism, have shown the breadth and depth of their skill and abilities.
